Walter James Obituary

Time To be Born

Walter Henry James was born in Mims, Florida on July 7, 1943, to the late Willie and Maeonia James.  He was the fourteenth of sixteen children and affectionately called “Walt Henry” by his siblings.

Time To Learn

Walter received his education in the Brevard County Public School System.  During his high school years he played both football and baseball which earned him a scholarship to South Carolina State University.  Walter was a member of the South Carolina State Gridder football and baseball team in which both had impressive season in 1963.

Time to Love

After college Walter returned to Mims, Florida and married his first wife and to this union they had four children.  In 1972 Walter moved to Hawkins, Texas in which he met Ester, better known as “Baby” and gain an additional child.  They later moved to Longview, TX where Walter remained until God him home to glory.

Time to Worship

Walter accepted Christ at an early age and upon moving to Longview he visited a couple of churches and found his church home with the Galilee Baptist Church, Longview, TX under the leadership of Rev. J.B. Dunlap.  Walter grew to love the Lord and was not ashamed to worship. At Galilee he started as a bus driver, then later as a Sunday School teacher, trustee and church staff.

Time To Work

Walter was a hardworking and dedicated worker.  He worked at Kennedy Space Center (Merritt City, FL), LeBus International, Inc. (Longview, TX) and King Bearings, now Bearing Inc. (Longview, TX).  At the age of 62 Walter retired, became a volunteer at Good Shepherd and begin to live his best life.

Time To Play

Walter truly enjoyed life.  He loved yardwork / landscaping, to play horseshoes, watch sports, eat “good food”, cook Collard Greens, discuss current events and the bible.  He loved to spend time with family and friends especially his “Kaiyah Pooh”.  He loved to plan Spring Break and Summer Break outings for just the two of them.  Walter loved to celebrate life which is why he was a candidate for a heart transplant and the young age of 70.

Time To Die

Walter completed his journey here and transitioned from earth to glory on Thursday, July 28th with his family by his side.
