Roy Gene Anderson, was born October 17, 1955, in Deberry, Texas to the late Wilson and Bertha Anderson.
Roy was a native of Deberry, Texas, graduating, from what is known now as Carthage High School, with the class of 1974. After graduating high school, Roy joined the United States National Guard. Upon his discharge from the military, he went on to work at Lone Star Steel; working there for 20 years, before retiring in 1997. After retiring he continued to work in his community, helping others do whatever he could assist them in doing.
Mr. Anderson was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a long time, faithful, member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J. D. Palmer. As a member of the church, he served as a trustee, member of the brotherhood, member of the Might Male Voices, and a member of Sunday school.
Skeeta, as called by family, was a very wise and ambitious man. He was known to always have a word of encouragement to give; along with a mint life saver, a banana, or a Ne-hi peach soda.
Roy found happiness in working on his and his children’s personal projects, going out to eat, watching the Dallas Cowboys, any kind of carpentry work, working on automobiles; he was a very skillful mechanic, spending time with his family, and simply joy riding.
Even the hardest working man deserves some rest. Just before 6 o’clock, on the evening of Labor Day, September 7, 2020, a very hard working man received his time to rest. Skeeta will join in Heaven with his parents, Wilson and Bertha Anderson; brothers, Wilson, Jr. and Donnie Roy; and sisters, Alice, Mary, Legertha, and Bessie.
Mr. Anderson lived a fun filled life and has left many memories. He leaves to carry his legacy, his loving and devoted wife of 40 years, Vernice Anderson; four sons, Durwin (Nicole) Brown, Roy Jerome Anderson, Roderick (Shaviarre) Anderson, and, his “last chance”, Joshua (Khadijah) Anderson; two daughters, Roygena (Kayon) Fortman and Shawanna (Ramanza White) Anderson; a special grandson, Jakeilean “Kilo” Howard; 13 grandchildren; four brothers, Tommy (Alta) Anderson, Robert Earl Anderson, Matthew (Ann) Anderson, and Samuel Anderson; four sisters, Netha Bell Davis, Dollie Sheffield, Lacy Barkins, and Wilma; last living uncle, Paul Anderson; best friend, Charles Morgan; and a host of other relatives and friends.
When you find yourself in a confusing situation and you don’t know what to do, think of what Roy Gene would say…. “Have some sense for yourself”.
Enjoy a life saver today and remember Mr. Roy Gene “Skeeta” Anderson.
