Kenneth Wayne Washington

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Washington, Kenny Wayne to most, was born June 11, 1950, in Harleton, Texas to Walter and Ruth Washington; the youngest of two children. 

Kenny Wayne was a life long resident of Harleton, Texas and was known by many people, attending school and graduating from Harleton High School. During his school years, he played football and basketball, he excelled as a basketball player. After graduating from High School he was drafted into the military, serving in the Army. He served in the Vietnam War and was a proud Veteran; you could find him at Texas Roadhouse on Veteran’s Day, eating a well done steak. He bravely served his country from July 22, 1970 until February 2, 1972. During his years of service, he worked as an auto mechanic. He received many medals such as National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2BSS, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Rifle Medal.

He was known to be a very outspoken person, never meeting a stranger; whatever came to his mind, you could count on him to say it. Noted as a clown and or comedian, always making others laugh as he showed out entertaining, there was never a dull moment when he was around. He had a smile that would light up the room. In his free time he enjoyed watching sports, visiting with family and friends, working in his yard, making others laugh, and anything that included spending money; money seemed to burn a hole in his pocket.

Mr. Washington was a member of First Community Baptist Church, in Harleton, Texas. You could find him serving as the assistant Sunday School Superintendent, in the church choir and the male chorus, and he also made sure the church was kept clean with his custodial duties. He was a sharp dresser and took pride in always being dressed nice, being clean shaved, and having on a pair of clean and tidy shoes. 

Kenneth married, Deborah Newsome, on July 4, 1987 and to this union one child was born, Taylor Alexzandrea Washington.

Just before the sun rose on the morning of Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 6:05 a.m., he answered the Master’s call and went home, resting from his labor and receiving his reward. He has reunited with parents, Walter and Ruth Washington; and brother, Celuster Washington. 

Kenny Wanye left a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be missed most by his daughter, Taylor Washington; bonus daughter, Khadijah (Joshua) Anderson; nieces, Nicole Washington and Aliece Turner; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. 

During his courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Washington never lost his smile. When life seems to weigh you down, live like Kenny Wayne, smile your way through.
