Josephine Brown Obituary

Mrs. Josephine Brown was born April 11, 1937 to the union of Comie and Lucille Brown.

She united fellowship at an early age with Pleasant Hill C.M.E. Church. She moved to Dallas, TX and joined Southern Crest Baptist Church and remained an active member until she moved back to Longview, TX in 1976. She then joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church where she remained an active member until the Lord called her home.


She attended the Pleasant Hill School where she graduated as the Valedictorian of her High School Class. She went on to become a private nurse and caregiver to many.

Josephine married Hollis Brown, Jr. and to this union five children were born, three daughters, Sandra, Charlotte, and Marilyn; two sons, Thomas, and Julius.


She was preceded in death by Hollis Brown, her son Julius, her parents; Comie and Lucille, two sisters; Etta Mae Williams and Flora Pierce, and three brothers; Hurie Brown, William Brown, and Prentiss Brown and grandson, Orion Peoples.


Josephine leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Mamie Manus, and two sisters-in-law Hazel Brown and Betty Sue Brown both of Longview, TX. Three daughters, Sandra Oliver of Longview, TX, Charlotte Brown of Rowlett, TX and Marilyn Brown Bell (Braden) of Rowlett, TX and son, Thomas Brown (Charline) of Garland, TX. Seven grandchildren, Alvis Johnson, Jr., Holly Johnson, Jasmine Brown, Braden Bell II, Thomas Brown II, Makenzie Bell, and Nikolos Brown. Five great grandchildren, Jaliah, Jaycee, JaBeverly, Kiyannia, Onnestiey, and 1 great-great grandchild Yarra. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
