Epitome of Life for Hubert LaGrone

Hubert LaGrone (Cap) was born February 21, 1935 in Hallsville, TX to Neltie Sam and Estella Miller LaGrone.

Hubert attended the Hallsville school system and was united with the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hallsville, TX at an early age.

Hubert united in holy matrimony to Verdell Smith LaGrone on August 31, 1954 in Harrison County and to this union two daughters were born. They enjoyed 58 years together until she passed in 2012.

Hubert began his lifelong career as a truckdriver at the age of 19 and nothing gave him greater pleasure than being behind the wheel of his big truck. He drove for 60 years having been employed by Browning Ferris and Plains Machinery Company hauling heavy equipment for 30 years. In 1988, Hubert started his own company H & H Trucking and was still driving at the age of 80 until his health began to fail. Hubert was a self-taught mechanic, welder, plumber and carpenter. He could fix anything! He loved farming and could often be found in the country plowing, planting, raking and baling hay and tending to his cattle all while still driving trucks. Hubert had a green thumb and was well known for his beautiful collard greens. Always giving freely, helping others and asking for nothing in return. But, as much as he loved driving, farming and his cattle he loved Verdell and the girls even more ALWAYS making sure they had everything they needed as well as what they wanted.

Hubert departed his earthly tabernacle Saturday, November 23rd at his home with his faithful and steadfast daughter, Donna right by his side after a lengthy illness. Preceding him in death are his wife, parents, brothers; Hiram, Charles and Henry LaGrone; godson, Sansiski Daniels and son-in-law, Neal Carter, Jr.

Cherishing his memories are his loving and dedicated daughters; Jennita Carter and Donna LaGrone both of Longview, TX, adopted son; Larry Don Burton of Hawkins, TX, granddaughters; Ti’Kaeko Garland (Paul) and Alize’ Champion both of Longview, TX, great grandchildren; Tra’Dhailon Fletcher, Phaityn Garland, Sierra Pruitt-Garland, Aniya Garland, Sha'Niyah Garland and Paul Beckworth, all of Longview, TX, sister, Martizett Bell (Henry) of Goldvein, VA, brothers; Arthur LaGrone, Nelson LaGrone, Sr. and John LaGrone  all of Longview, TX, sisters-in-laws Faye Taylor of Marshall, TX and Jessie Smith of Hallsville, TX, brothers-in-laws; Milton (Pete) Smith and Jimmie Smith (Earlean) both of Dallas, TX, and Hubert Howard, Royse City, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
