Mrs. Bessie Mae Rodgers Brantley was born on December 11, 1928 in Marshall, Texas to Jewrie and Louise Rodgers. She was preceded in death by husband, Reverend Richard Brantley; son, Leotis Brantley; Father and Mother, Jewrie and Lousie Rodgers; three sisters, Katie M. Wilbum, Dorothy J. Cox and Cammie Rodgers; three brothers, R. Ray Rodgers, Hurrious Rodgers and Willie Ray Rodgers .
She is a Graduate of Pemberton High School, Marshall, Texas
Mrs. Bessie was spiritually affiliated with Golden Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Hallsville, Texas, at an early age. Throughout her life she also attended EL Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Overton, Texas, New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Tyler, Texas, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Moorningsport, Louisiana and Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, Hallsville, Texas; where she was the musician for 23 years until death.
Ms. Bessie is survived by Special Grand-daughter, whom she helped raise, Angelia (Joe) Beck, Hallsville, Texas; daughters: Gladys Brantley and Rozella Butler of Longview, Texas; four sisters, Louise Bradley, Mary Lois Wilkins, Helen Bornes, and Lucille Carter of Longview, Texas; brother, Roosevelt Rodgers Sr. of Hallsville, Texas; “Her bright Eyes“, A’mariyah Farrow; eight grand-children, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren; Best Friends Alice (J.D.) Beck and Kokaquee Devine.
